Shooting victim improves

A 16-year-old Tampa youth shot twice in the chest Friday night was upgraded to fair condition Saturday at Tampa General Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

Delray Turner, who had been in critical condition, was shot at 9:25 p.m. while standing in front of 8208 N Alaska St. after a car stopped and a passenger emerged with a small-caliber handgun, police said.

No arrests had been made Saturday.

20-year-old found shot dead

TAMPA _ A 20-year-old man was found shot to death early Saturday in the 1300 block of Main Street, Tampa police said.

Doy Warfield, whose address police could not provide, was found at 12:20 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the left temple, Lt. Robert Pennington said. There was no known motive for the shooting and no witnesses or suspects, Pennington said.

According to records with the Hillsborough County Jail, Warfield has an extensive arrest record including charges of cocaine possession, armed burglary and sexual battery. The disposition of those cases was not available Saturday.
