HILLSBOROUGH OBITUARIES

DORSEY, DORA LEE ODOM, 86, of Tampa, died Friday (June 30, 1995) in Tampa. She was born in Ten Mile, Ind., and moved to the bay area in 1941 from Chattanooga, Tenn. She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and a life member of the Tampa African Violet Society. She was a former president of the Tampa Begonia Society, where she was known as "the Begonia Lady." She also was a charter member of the Academy of Modern Porcelain Artists. Survivors include three daughters, Anetha Cochran, Tampa, Imelda Van Fleet, Jacksonville, and Darlene Krautheim, Lutz; a son, Larry Dorsey, Lutz; a brother, James Newt Odom, Lutz; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild. GORDON, JOHN H., 19, of Tampa, died Thursday (June 29, 1995) in Tampa. He was born in Boston and moved to Tampa from Brookline, Mass., in 1991. He was a laborer. Survivors include his father, James, Boston; his mother, Martha Pritchett, Tampa; three brothers, James F. and Ricardo, both of Battle Creek, Mich., and Joseph, Matapan, Mass.; and six sisters, Katherine Gray, Battle Creek, Vernice Gordon, Matapan, Mass., Carol Gordon, Cambridge, Mass., Gwendolyn Gordon, Boston, Janet Gordon, Framingham, Mass., and Rebecca Gordon, Tampa. McRAE, RICHARD W., 71, of Tampa, died Friday (June 30, 1995) in Tampa. He was born in Tampa and was a lifelong resident. He was an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 915. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of American Veterans Post No. 4. He was a Protestant. Survivors include his wife, Mary J.; two brothers, David, Nicholson, Ga., and Gordon, Tampa; two sisters, Lenora Keene, Land O' Lakes, and Doris Wilson, Durant; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. PERLMAN, GERTRUDE, 88, of Tampa, died Sunday (July 2, 1995) at Memorial Hospital. She was born in Poland and moved to Tampa from the Bronx, N.Y., in 1955. She was the owner and operator of a retail fabric store. She was Jewish. Survivors include a son, Eugene, Niceville; a daughter, Edyth Stanley, Tampa; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Beth David Funeral Chapel, Tampa.

PITTMAN, CHARLES KENNETH, 66, of Tampa, died Saturday (July 1, 1995) at home under the care of Hospice. He was born in Tampa and was a lifelong resident. He was a manager for GTE Inc., retiring after 30 years of service. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Community Lodge No. 292 F. & A.M. and the Tampa Consistory Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite. He also was a member of Egypt Shrine Temple and a former president of "Tin Lizzies Unit." Survivors include his wife, Fidelia Jeanne; two daughters, Danette McMenamin, Palm Harbor, and Allison Howard, Wesley Chapel; a son, Glen K., Tampa; and six grandchildren. PULLARA, SALVATORE "SAM," 78, of Tampa, died Sunday (July 2, 1995) in Tampa. He was born in Tampa and was a lifelong resident. He was the owner of the Britton Plaza Shoe Repair Shop for 35 years. He retired last year. He was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 4, the American Legion Post 248 and L'Unione Italiana. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn N.; a son, Frank "Sam" Pullara, Tampa; two daughters, Bonnie Baggett, Douglasville, Ga., and Lois Robertson, Odessa; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. TORTORELLO, ARTHUR A., 80, of Valrico, died Friday (June 30, 1995) at Brandon Hospital. He was born in New York City and moved to the bay area 23 years ago from Long Island, N.Y. He was an automobile painter and a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8612. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving aboard the USS Brooklyn during World War II. He also was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Irene Bugan; three sons, Christopher, Jerry and Edward, all of Long Island; and three daughters, Lorraine Tortorello, Long Island, Caren Smith, Valrico, and Janet Brown, Brandon. VALDEZ, ISHMAEL "SHORTY," 88, of Tampa, died Sunday (July 2, 1995) in Tampa. He was born in Tampa and was a lifelong resident. He was a retired machinist with the American Can Company of Tampa. Survivors include his wife, Louise; a son, Harold, Tampa; three daughters, Audrey Hernandez, Betty Jean Stanfield and Judy Merritt, all of Tampa; a brother, Hernando Valdes, Hialeah; a sister, Norma Dominguez, Tampa; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
