Phillies close within game of first

Clearwater moved within a game of first-place Fort Myers in the Western Division with a 12-5 victory over host Charlotte on Sunday.

Clearwater got six runs in the first off Charlotte starter Jeff Davis, none of them earned as the Rangers committed two errors. Scott Shores drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double.

Scott Rolen, who had four hits, homered in the second to make it 7-0 and Wendell Magee (3-for-6) had a two-run homer in the eighth.

Yankees 9, Miracle 5: Tampa handed host Fort Myers just its second loss in 11 games.

Matt Drews (9-5) got the victory despite allowing 10 hits. He blanked the Miracle through six innings before giving up all five Miracle runs in the seventh. Bubba Smith's three-run double was the big hit for Fort Myers.

Daniel Rios allowed just one hit over the last 2 innings to pick up his 17th save.

R. D. Long had three hits and three RBI for Tampa, including a two-run triple in the ninth.

Mets 6, Cardinals 2: St. Petersburg dropped below .500 with its loss at Port St. Lucie.

Jays-Expos rained out: Rain postponed Dunedin's game at West Palm Beach. The game will be made up as part of a 5:05 p.m. doubleheader today.
