Students' work encouraged with scholarships, awards

Anne-Marie Petersen, daughter of Patricia Petersen of Holiday, recently was awarded a scholarship by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 79 of New Port Richey.

Miss Peterson, a recent graduate of Gulf High School, was a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, Center for Excellency Honor Society at the University of South Florida and the National Journalism Society. For the past nine years of school, including summer school, she has had perfect attendance.

During the past year, she worked part time at Winn-Dixie and attended St. Petersburg Junior College two nights a week.

She plans to attend the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. She hopes for a career as a neurosurgeon.

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Zachary Drew Morgan, son of Terry and Lona Morgan of New Port Richey, has received a Millsaps Scholarship Award to attend Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.

A recent graduate of River Ridge High School, he was listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students; was a candidate for Florida Gold Seal Scholar and the Air Force ROTC Scholarship; was on the academic honor roll; was a High School All Conference Academic Athlete, a National Athletic Merit Endorsement and a High School All American Scholar; received an Academic Letter; and is a United School Employee of Pasco County Scholarship recipient.

He was a member of Interact, a Rotary International Board of Directors and board officer; a member of Future Business Leaders of America; and a member of a Math Team and Entrepreneurship Team. He lettered in varsity football and varsity baseball and was a member of the junior varsity soccer team.

He served as a volunteer for Special Olympics, local elementary school fairs and the Very Special Arts Festival and was employed by Publix Supermarkets.

He plans a career in computer science or biology and hopes to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

DADE CITY _ Ryan Storms, son of Don and Patricia Storms of Dade City and a senior at Stetson University majoring in music performance, placed second overall out of more than 75 university and music conservatory students at the International Trumpet Guild and Brassfest Convention at Indiana (Bloomington) University.

Storms won a scholarship to the ITG for the second consecutive year and was accompanied by James Ault, professor of trumpet at Stetson University, and Roy Pickering, professor of trombone at the University of Central Florida.

Storms plans to pursue an advanced degree in music performance after graduation from Stetson. He is a 1991 graduate of Pasco High School.

HOLIDAY _ Kimberly Townsend and David Goldstein, residents of Holiday Lake Estates East, received $1,000 scholarships from the Holiday Lake Estates Civic Association.

The scholarship recipients are recent graduates of Gulf High School.

HUDSON _ Steven J. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Davis, has received a bachelor of science degree from Tampa College, Largo Campus.

He and his wife Amy operate All-Clean, a property maintenance business in West Pasco.
