It didn't count in the point standings, but Lee Blevins of Brooksville can console himself with the $1,200-plus cash prize for winning Saturday's Crystal Chevrolet Late Model Firecracker 50 at the Citrus County Speedway.

Blevins, starting on the pole, controlled the race from the outset and maintained his lead through six caution flags.

The rest of the field wound up vying for second place, and at the wire it was Fred Tuski of Crystal River who managed to finish ahead of current points leader Bruce Gaskins of Inverness.

Dale Sanders of Lecanto followed in fourth, with Alan Peckham of Lake Panasoffkee fifth. Terry Cater of Inverness had the fastest qualifying time, while the Hard Charger Award went to Butch Yoakam, who came from the back of the pack to challenge for second before dropping back to sixth after an altercation.

A half-dozen caution flags slowed down the Sportsman feature, a race eventually won by Steve Anderson of New Port Richey. Ted Bolles of Hernando edged Tom Sarver of Lecanto for second, while James Batson of Inverness and Eddie Silcox of Floral City rounded out the top five.

Robert Ray of Floral City got the checkered flag in the Street Stock feature, topping points leader Harley Wilson Sr. of Floral City. Curtis Flanagan of Inverness came in third, with Mike Veltman of Crystal River and Dwayne Fults of Hernando grabbing fourth and fifth respectively.

In Mini Stocks, Wes Filyaw of Brooksville went wire-to-wire for a victory over a crowded 27-car field. Filyaw, who also won his heat race, held off challenges from John Coleman of Brooksville, Inverness' Bob Eldredge and Bill Buchanan, and Frank Coleman of Brooksville, who all made their way into the top five.

In Bombers, James Cannon of Inverness moved into the points lead with a win in that division's only race of the evening. It was a make-up of the feature postponed two weeks earlier due to the 11 p.m. curfew. Cannon topped Danny Cretty of Dunnellon, Joe Gill of Inverness, Johnny Sanders of Homosassa, and Tommy Malicott.

The curfew once again interrupted the schedule, postponing the two regularly scheduled Bomber features until next Saturday night. The July 8 program also will include the final appearance of the Southern Automobile Racing Association (SARA) Modifieds at the speedway for this season.
