Today's topic: Kids' Corner

Published Oct. 4, 2005

Since most people gather today for fun and food, you can be the star of the show by stepping through a postcard.

To do this trick, you'll need a 4- by 6-inch postcard or piece of lightweight cardboard and scissors.

Show everyone the postcard and tell them you can cut a hole in the card large enough to step through. When everyone says, "No way!" proceed to do the following:

1) Fold the postcard in half lengthwise.

2) Make six evenly spaced cuts across the fold to within \-inch of the edge, taking care not to cut all the way through. From the open edge, make six more cuts between the first ones, almost to the fold. (See the illustration.)

3) Open the card and cut down the center of the card from the first cut (A) to the last cut (B).

4) Now carefully open the card into a circle and step through it.

Voila!! You've done exactly what you said you would do. Hope you have a happy holiday.
