The Florida Marine Patrol issued two citations for violations of the state's new net ban Tuesday, bringing the total number of citations to six since enforcement began Saturday.
"It's quiet today," patrol Maj. Bruce Buckson said Tuesday.
The latest two citations were issued to fishermen on a boat with a 50-foot gill net in the Cocoa Beach area. The patrol Saturday issued three citations off the Panhandle coast and one off Jacksonville.
In addition to the citations, abandoned gill nets were found around the state: 4,000 yards in Santa Rosa County on Sunday, three nets in the Indian River near St. Lucie and another off Fort Myers on Saturday.
Also, nails were strewn on a boat ramp and some private boats were vandalized with spray paint in the same area.
