Nease lifts Southwest

Ricky Neese collected eight RBI on a double and two homers, including a grand slam, to lead Southwest past Azalea 20-1 in a losers bracket game of the District 5 Majors (ages 11-12) all-star baseball tournament Tuesday afternoon.

Jeremiah Bellotti fired a two-hitter to lead Southwest on the mound. Robby Bowman had three hits.

Majors Softball (ages 11-12): Stephanie Strickland homered and threw a two-hitter as Seminole blanked Pinellas Park National 14-0. Jackie Civello and Jamie Campbell each had triples.

Seniors Baseball (ages 13-15): Brian Serata allowed two hits over five innings and fanned four as Cross Bayou pounded Northeast 27-1. Ian Church and Chris Huber had four hits each, and Ryan Adair and Johnny Collins added three hits apiece.

In a game late Monday, Huber had four hits, including three doubles to lead Cross Bayou past Northwest 10-7. Brandon Eubanks picked up the win.

David Decoeur allowed two hits and fanned eight to lead Pinellas Park National to a 1-0 shut out of Azalea. Mike McGee drove in Danny Mangual with the lone run of the game.

Juniors Baseball (ages 13): Adam Wilzinski and Robbie Evers combined on a shutout to lead Seminole past Pinellas Park National 3-0.

Andy Metcalf, Wilzinski and Evers had run-scoring singles in the fifth inning.

In other games, David Samuelson and Jon Adkins combined to get the win while Samuelson helped his own cause with two singles to pace Pinellas Park National to a 26-5 win over Thunderdome/Pinellas Park American.

Paul Mayo had three RBI and a single and double, and Billy Burke had a double and single. Nick Massett added three RBI.

9/10 Softball: Amanda Schmidt had a bases-loaded triple and scored four runs, and Rachel Paroulek also scored four runs to carry Seminole to a 28-2 win over Azalea. Emily Ekstrand picked up the win and Laurie Davis and Michelle Bannister added two hits apiece.

District 12

Seniors Baseball (ages 13-15): Michael Zody hit for the cycle and knocked in seven runs as Palm Harbor National routed Countryside 16-2 Monday.

Wes Buckles sparked the team on the mound with 11 strikeouts while going the distance.

Cory Agar added two hits, including a homer.

In other games, Oliver Manchester came on in relief of starter Ryan Swafford and threw two strong innings to guide Oldsmar past Holiday 7-5.

With the tying runs on base in the seventh inning, catcher Patrick Horvath caught the final out. He also threw out two runners trying to steal in the game. John Warwick contributed defensively with two outstanding catches in centerfield to stop Holiday threats.

Steve Patterson combined with Josh Kitterman and Aaron Diehl on the mound and produced three RBI on four hits to lead Dunedin National past West Pasco 17-2.

Grant Abrams added three RBI on two hits while Ryan Tecklenberg had three RBI and two hits. Kitterman contributed four RBI on four hits.

Majors Baseball (ages 11-12): Roger Boen scattered six hits and fanned six to get the win and lead Palm Harbor American to an 11-1 victory over Safety Harbor American.

Casey Dulin led the offense with three hits and Taylor McCormack added three hits, including a homer. Brian Dupirak also aided the offense with a three-run clout.

Seniors Softball (ages 13-15): Gina Dawe hit a homer and Aimee Morissette had a triple to lead West Pinellas to a 14-13 win over Hudson.

9/10 Softball: Erin Brunt, Jennifer Battaglia, Jessica Brinkman and Mara Weiss had two hits apiece to lead Countryside past Palm Harbor American 16-6.
