A 17-year-old was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of attacking a Wal-Mart security guard after trying to steal $90.52 in merchandise.

Louis Lonnie Lykins, 17, of 20008 Lake Holly Drive in Lutz, was charged with strong-armed robbery and aggravated battery, according to Sheriff's Office reports. He was taken to the Pasco Juvenile Detention Center on Monday.

A 14-year-old girl who was with Lykins was charged with retail theft for helping to conceal items in her purse while Lykins kept some in his book bag, reports said.

Among the items stolen were a brush and earrings.

When the security guard tried to detain him, Lykins kicked him in the stomach and punched him in the face and groin, according to reports. Lykins also bit the guard in his right arm, reports said. The security guard was treated for his wounds.

The store is at 21703 State Road 54.
