Tarpon Springs could get jobs center

A state-run jobs center that had been slated to merge with an office in Clearwater may be moving to new quarters in Tarpon Springs. The Palm Harbor Jobs and Benefits Center, at Klosterman Road and U.S. 19, is talking with officials at the Union Cultural Academy about moving there. The plan still needs the approval of the board of the Citizens Alliance for Progress, the social services group that operates the academy off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. "We're in discussion now; hopefully some things can be worked out," said David Archie, executive director of the group. Fred Wilson, employment services manager with the job center, said he hopes the office will remain in north county so people won't have to travel for services.
