BANKING

Elaine K. Hicks has been promoted to senior vice president, operations and branch administration, of

FirstMerit Bank, 28059 U.S. 19 N, Clearwater. She has worked eight years for the bank and most recently was vice president, operations. Kenneth A. Joyce has been promoted to president and managing officer. He joined the bank last year as vice president, retail lending. Thomas J. "Mike" Neville has been promoted to senior vice president and senior lender. He joined the bank this year as vice president, commercial lending officer.

CONTRACTS

Creative Contractors of 620 Drew St., Clearwater, has been awarded a contract by Morton Plant Mease Health Care to build a two-story, 120-bed nursing center at Bayview Gardens in Clearwater. The $4-million, 49,000-square-foot project is to be completed in May.

PAR Builders II of 3350 Ulmerton Road, Largo, has been awarded a $1.1-million contract to build a 72,000-square-foot mini storage center in Venice and a $1-million contract to build a 70,000-square-foot mini storage center in Tampa.

Lloveras, Baur and Stevens of 29228 U.S. 19 N, Clearwater, has been selected to provide consulting engineering services for a subdivision with 116 single-family homes planned in the Wyndtree development. The project is just north of the Pinellas County line in Pasco County.

EXPANSION

Colleen's Dessert and Coffee Bar has opened at Wilhite's bookstore, which has been open five years at 425 Cleveland St. in downtown Clearwater. Named after co-owner Colleen O'Brien Wilhite, the new section features an Irish theme with books on Ireland and homemade desserts that include Irish cream brownies and Grandma O'Brien's Irish oatmeal cookies, as well as Nanaimo bars from British Columbia, chocolate truffle cake, hot or iced organic coffees, and teas and lemonade.

NEW BUSINESSES

Drs. Shelley A. Young and Stephanie Van Zandt, who own Gulfcoast Women's Care, an obstetrics and gynecology practice in Clearwater, are opening a satellite office at 3890 Tampa Road, Suite 407, Palm Harbor. The new office is scheduled to open Aug. 15.

Jim and Lenore Dunmire have opened a 7,000-square-foot PIP Printing center at 27376 U.S. 19 N, Clearwater. The company has its headquarters in Agoura Hills, Calif.

Martha B. Zacharias has opened Artistic Framing at 201 Douglas Road, Suite 9, in Oldsmar. Sculptures, watercolors, limited-edition works and posters are featured at the business, which specializes in wholesale custom framing.

PEOPLE NOTES

HealthSouth Corp. has appointed Dean D. Stein regional director of managed care for Florida. He is responsible for the negotiation of managed-care arrangements for more than 60 inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and ambulatory-surgery centers in Florida. He previously was chief operating officer and director of managed care for Community Health Systems' Florida hospitals. His office is at 617 Lakeview Road, Suite C, Clearwater.

Dr. Barry F. Blitz has joined the Bay Area Urology practice of Drs. Donald M. Bergner and Norwood C. Cardozo at 33920 U.S. 19 N, Suite 241, Palm Harbor.

Peggy Keasler has joined the sales staff of Keller Williams Realty at 2561 Countryside Blvd., Suite 1, in Clearwater. She most recently was with Bobby Byrd Realty. She is a native of Effingham, Ill., and has lived 11 years in Palm Harbor. Keller Williams is based in Austin, Texas, and has 50 offices in 11 states.
