Quality of Life Index, Sources
Abortions: The Orlando Sentinel, Sept. 20, 1995. Miami attorney Sheila Moylan cited the statistics, which she said the state of Florida supplied, during an Orlando planning board hearing last week. Moylan told the board that Orlando's abortions occurred at just three clinics. Tampa had significantly fewer abortions, she said, but they were spread out among four clinics.
Vehicle theft: "Official 1995 Semi-Annual Crime Report," prepared by the Tampa Police Department's support services division, August 1995.
Effluent discharges: "The State of the Environment," Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission 1994 Annual Report.
Illegal passes: University of South Florida Center for Urban Transportation Research. The center asked school bus drivers to keep a count of vehicles that passed illegally on May 25. According to the survey, a motorcycle made one of the illegal passes, and a police car made another. The remaining nine of the 482 passes were unclassified.
