A new poll confirms that last week's Million Man March in Washington gave Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan heightened stature as a leader among black Americans.

A Time magazine/CNN poll released Saturday showed that 37 percent of blacks say they agree with Farrakhan's positions, up from 23 percent earlier this month. And 53 percent of black Americans give Farrakhan a favorable rating, up from 35 percent last March.

Among black respondents, 85 percent agree with the goals of the Oct. 16 march on Washington.

A Newsweek poll, also released Saturday, found that found 56 percent of black Americans say the Nation of Islam or Black Muslims are effective leaders in black America.

However, the Newsweek poll also reported that 67 percent of whites and 64 percent of blacks say Farrakhan does not represent the views of most black Americans.
