Ask a monster to spill his or her guts, and you never know what you'll get.
In honor of Halloween _ every monster's favorite holiday _ Ickis, Krumm and Oblina, the cast of Nickelodeon's AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, agreed to speak to us . . . under one condition. Questions answered must be provided by . . . AAAHH!!! real kids _ not just the kind that watch their show, but also the kind that read X-Press.
AAAHH!!! Real Monsters (Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m.) follows the adventures of three monster-chums who are students at Monster Academy.
Despite a tendency to eat worms and corduroy, these creatures are surprisingly human at times.
Ickis, good-natured but insecure, can only seem to find his monster ability to grow in size and turn his eyes red when pushed the the extreme. Krumm, who carries his eyeballs around in his hands, has a big heart and a big smell but tends to be a bit of a slacker. Oblina, bright and theatrical, tends to overextend herself . . . and her insides.
The show's second season premieres this Halloween weekend (8:30 p.m. Saturday). A few weeks ago, X-Press asked fans to help us pick the stars' brains _ and here's what you came up with, along with the monstrous answers.
What is the best way to scare someone?
Oblina: Definitely sneaking up on them when they least suspect it!
Krumm: I like to stink my way through a scare.
What kind of video games do the kid monsters like to do?
Ickis: We've never actually "played" a video game, but they make a great meal!
What was your favorite scare?
Ickis: Personally, I like the scares we do together! Our best scare (oh, there's so many to choose from) was probably the triple laundry scare. Oblina posed as a sock, Krumm gave that super-dirty laundry stink, and I jumped out of the detergent box! Of course, I was the mastermind behind it all!
Oblina and Krumm: Ickis!
Ickis: Okay, okay, we thought of it together.
Oblina and Krumm: Ickis!
Ickis: All right already. It was Oblina's idea.
How old are you?
Krumm: In monster years, not too old, but in human years, I'm in my early hundreds. We monsters can live to be up to 1,000 years old, give or take a few years. It all depends how well we eat. ... The more garbage, the better.
What is your favorite bug? What color is it? And what does it taste like?
Krumm: I love sloppy slugs. They're grayish in color and taste delicious. You know, slimy and wet and juicy!
How many Freddy Krueger movies have you made?
Ickis: We've never made any movies, although Krumm once had a short career as a famous Hollywood monster.
Krumm: Being a big Hollywood star was fun _ all the garbage you could eat _ but I missed my friends.
I was wondering: How do you kill death? Like with a dagger or what? I would appreciate if you would tell me.
Oblina: We don't kill at all _ we just scare!
Why does the teacher on AAAHH! Real Monsters have red women's shoes? I thought he was a boy.
Ickis: The Gromble wears red pumps to honor one of his most successful scares. Seems he scared everyone in a shoe store and ended up with the shoes on his feet.
Oblina: He has quite a collection, you know.
How can humans make their costumes scarier?
Ickis: Well, they could cover themselves with live worms.
Krumm: That wouldn't be scary _ that would be yummy!
I want to know what the monsters have for Halloween.
Oblina: Oh, we have lots of fun. We get to eat copper candy. I think you humans call them pennies. We also get to go above ground and scare. Most people think we are just humans _ until we show them what we're made of.
Krumm: Yeah, Oblina pulls her guts out. Gets them every time.
Why do they call them monsters when they are not even that scary?
Ickis: Who asked that question? I'll show them scary!
Oblina: We are scary when we want to be.
What are you going to be for Halloween?
Oblina, Krumm and Ickis: Monsters, of course.
Krumm: Hey, Ickis, you should be a bunny rabbit.
Ickis: Why, I ought to ...
What do you suggest we do to scare people on Halloween to get more candy?
Oblina: I don't think you scare to get candy. Don't you ring the bell and say ... ?
Ickis: Prick your feet!
Krumm: Isn't it "Pick your meat"?
