In 1994, only 10 votes separated Bob DiNicola and James R. Palamara in the mayor's race. Tuesday, it wasn't nearly as close. DiNicola defeated Palamara by more than 200 votes.
DiNicola, 63, served as a city commissioner for 10 years before being elected mayor two years ago. He is co-owner of a Merle Norman Cosmetics studio in Clearwater.
Commission incumbents Jean Scott and Larry Sandefer also soundly defeated hopeful Joseph Dima, who was making a second run for the commission. Both Scott and Sandefer were elected to second terms.
Scott, 47, owns three condominiums at Reef Club on Gulf Boulevard with her husband, George. They live in one and rent out the other two. Sandefer, 46, is a Clearwater lawyer.
The trio will be sworn in at the March 20 commission meeting. Commissioners serve two-year terms and are paid $200 a month. The mayor also serves two years and is paid $250.
