Lakeland woman wins Miss Florida crown

After three previous attempts, Jamie Bolding of Lakeland is the new Miss Florida.

"It became my passion," said Bolding, 21, of winning the title Saturday night in Orlando. "It took four years, but the pageant taught me what dedication is all about. I learned from losing."

Kristi Sheffield, Miss Tampa, was the first runner-up.

Bolding will represent the Sunshine State in the Miss America pageant Sept. 14 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Bolding, a University of Florida senior studying broadcast journalism, performed a ballet number to the song Can You Read My Mind. She is an intern at WFLA-TV Ch. 8.

The other runners-up included, in order: Christy Neuman, Miss Azalea of Winter Haven; Jennifer Alvarez, Miss Orlando; and Stephanie Dutting, Miss Naples.
