DISNEY WORLD LANDS CIRCUS

The Cirque du Soleil, the internationally acclaimed Montreal-based circus, has signed a 12-year deal with Walt Disney World to perform at the resort. The Disney World production is scheduled to open in November 1998 and will be staged in a 1,650-seat theater to be built especially for the Cirque du Soleil in an area of the resort called the Disney Village marketplace. Created in 1984 by a group of street performers, the circus has won a worldwide following with innovative shows that mix traditional circus acts with street theater, eye-catching costumes and original music.
