Plane lands safely despite trouble

A private, twin-engine plane sent sparks flying Friday night when the landing gear under its nose collapsed during a landing at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport.

Fire trucks and rescue workers rushed to the airport at 8:50 p.m. after the pilot reported landing-gear problems from the air.

The Piper Seneca was damaged, but the pilot and two passengers were unhurt.
