An Eastside Elementary School teacher has pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor battery in connection with an April incident in which she was accused of grabbing a first-grader, pushing him to the ground and squeezing his face. Darlene Davis, 33, of Brooksville pleaded guilty Monday before County Judge Peyton B. Hyslop. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped several additional battery charges against Davis. Adjudication was withheld on the battery charge to which she pleaded guilty. The School Board suspended Davis without pay for 12 days in May. She was placed on medical leave for the remainder of the 1995-96 school year. The state's teacher certification board will decide whether Davis can keep her teaching certificate.
