ANNIVERSARIES

The Bowens

Bill and Rosemary Bowen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 27, 1996, with family and friends at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.

They were married at Christ Church in Cranbrook, Mich., and both are graduates of the University of Michigan. They moved to St. Petersburg from Westfield, N.J., in 1958.

Mrs. Bowen worked as an elementary school teacher and is active in the Power Squadron. She also enjoys bowling and bridge. Mr. Bowen was an engineer for Honeywell and served in the Navy for three years during World War II. He is active in the Power Squadron, Kiwanis Club, property management and tennis.

They own a trawler and enjoy traveling. They have sailed around Florida and made one trip to the Bahamas.

They have one son, one daughter and three grandchildren.

The Cammaranos

Peter L. and Vera Cammarano celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 15, 1996, with a cruise hosted by their children. They were married June 16, 1946, in New York City and moved to St. Petersburg in 1959.

Mrs. Cammarano is a housewife. Mr. Cammarano served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He is a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

They have two children and five grandchildren.

The Guecias

Ignatius "Iggy" and Carmela Guecia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 19, 1996, with family at the Scandia Restaurant in Indian Rocks Beach. They were married on May 19, 1946, in Jackson Heights, N.Y.

Mrs. Guecia retired as a beautician in 1983. Mr. Guecia worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1983. He served in the Army during World War II. They are planning a Caribbean cruise in August.

They have four children and three grandchildren.

The Hulls

Bill and Gert Hull celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family at a dinner given in their honor at GiGi's Italian Restaurant in South Pasadena.

They were married June 20, 1936, at St. John the Baptist Church in Chicago, and lived in Oak Lawn, Ill., until they moved to St. Petersburg in 1974.

Mrs. Hull retired from the Oak Lawn School District after 19 years. Mr. Hull retired from Commonwealth Edison after 43 years.

They have two daughters, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The Milaneses

Silvio and Beatrice Milanese celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception given by their children at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Petersburg. They were married on June 1, 1946, in Everett, Mass.

Mrs. Milanese retired from shoe sales for Maas Brothers at Tyrone Square in St. Petersburg. Mr. Milanese retired as plant and maintenance manager for Crown Baking Co. in Malden, Mass.

They have one son, one daughter, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Millers

James E. and Nioma E. Miller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows May 29, 1996, at Calvary Baptist Church in Orlando. Pastor Jim Philamlee officiated the ceremony, and they were joined by retired minister Richard Hinson and his wife, Mary. The Millers' daughter, Bonnie Fennell, and son, Charles Miller, and other family members held a dinner for them in Orlando. Mr. and Mrs. Miller will spend their 50th honeymoon in Germany during a visit to their oldest son, Gen. Jim Miller Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller met in 1934 at the ages of 7 and 9, and were married in 1946 at the Baptist parsonage in Marathon, N.Y. They moved to Pinellas Park in July 1957, then to Cross Bayou in 1959 and then to Orlando in 1968.

Mrs. Miller was employed by Starkey Elementary in 1960 and Harrison Photo Lab in 1963. She was transferred to Qualex Lab in Orlando in 1968 and after 30 years retired in 1994. Mr. Miller was employed by Kiss Bottling Co. in 1957 and opened a wig shop in 1962. He was then employed by Merio's before moving to Orlando to start his own business in 1969. He is currently employed by Smith Kline in Orlando. During World War II, he became one of the first Navy SEALS, the elite commando force. He earned the highest commendation in training and then served in the South Pacific.

They are members of Calvary Baptist Church and have five children and 12 grandchildren.

The Pinches

Roy and Ruth Pinch celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 16, 1996, with a "remembrances card" party given by their children at their home in St. Petersburg. They were married June 16, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Tampa and moved to St. Petersburg from Jacksonville. in 1955.

Mrs. Pinch retired as an Avon representative after 25 years and was a Girl Scout leader for Troop 180. Mr. Pinch is a graduate of the University of Tampa and the University of Florida. He was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers in Jacksonville and retired from Florida Power after 28 years. He is a Scout leader and member of Florida Power Retiree's Club, Mended Hearts 43, Gulfcoast Railfan Club, American Flyer Club and National Railway Historical Society. They are also active members of Childs Park United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg.

They have three children and five grandchildren.

The Ponders

James and Elsie M. Ponder celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Memorial Day weekend 1996, with a party attended by family in the Penthouse Suite at the Tradewinds Resort on St. Pete Beach. They were married May 18, 1946, in Danville, Ill., moved to Peoria, Ill., in 1958 and in 1972 moved to St. Petersburg.

Mrs. Ponder is a housewife. Mr. Ponder retired as executive chef for Country Villa and Tiffany Restaurant in Clearwater. He served in the Navy during World War II.

They have seven children, 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The Rautmans

Arthur and Emily W. Rautman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 23, 1996, with family and friends at their home in St. Petersburg. They were married June 23, 1936, in Madison, Wis., and moved to St. Petersburg from Albuquerque, N.M., in 1952.

Mrs. Rautman retired as a psychologist for Head Start in 1975. Mr. Rautman was employed as a clinical psychologist for the Veterans Administration before he retired in 1971. He maintained a private practice until 1994. They are active in Boy and Girl Scouts.

They have three children and six grandchildren.

The Scheeleys

Edward and Ethel Scheeley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 28, 1996, aboard the Show Queen dinner cruise with family and friends. They were married June 29, 1946, in Kensington, Pa., and moved to St. Petersburg in 1952.

Mr. Scheeley retired from construction work in 1965. He served in the Army during World War II.

They have two children, four grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

The Sirmonses

Raymond L. and Marno Thornton Sirmons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 8, 1996, with a reception given by their children at the Riviera United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. The family continued the celebration the next day on a cruise to the Bahamas.

They were married June 2, 1946, at First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. Mrs. Sirmons was born in Columbus, Ohio, but attended school in St. Petersburg during the winter. She graduated from St. Petersburg Junior College in 1942 and worked for the St. Petersburg Times from 1944 to 1947. She is a member of the Northeast Garden Club.

Mr. Sirmons was born in St. Petersburg. He graduated from SPJC in 1947 and the University of Florida in 1949. He was employed by Florida Power for 34 years and retired as director of public affairs in 1983. He served as a radar technician with the Eighth Air Force during World War II and is a member of the Gator Club, Over-the Hill Club and St. Petersburg High School 1940 Alumni.

They have four children and four grandchildren.

The Sumners

Everett and Dorothy Sumner celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary with a dinner with family. They were married on June 22, 1924, in St. Louis.

Mrs. Sumner moved to St. Petersburg in 1923 from St. Louis. She was employed by City Hall, where she met Mr. Sumner. She was also president of the Women's Rotary.

Mr. Sumner is a Florida native from St. Petersburg and was employed in real estate before he retired as division manager from Florida Power. He was a member of the Civitan Club, the Rotary Club and was president of the district Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. They are both members of the First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg.

They have one son, two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

The Tribianos

Charlie and Gloria Tribiano celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 18, 1996, with family at the Stockyard restaurant in Clearwater.

Mr. and Mrs. Tribiano were married on June 1, 1946, in Rosedale, N.Y. They moved to St. Petersburg from Staten Island, N.Y., in 1972. Mrs. Tribiano is a homemaker and for eight years volunteered for St. Vincent DePaul Society. She also volunteered at Columbia Hospital Medical Center for four years and is a member of the auxiliary club. Mr. Tribiano is a retired New York City corrections officer; he served for four years in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He is a member of the Lions Club.

They are members of St. Jude's Cathedral in St. Petersburg. They have three sons, one daughter and six grandchildren.

The Woods

Joe and Jeannette Wood celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 28, 1996. They were married on June 28, 1941, in Charleston, S.C., after knowing each other only six days.

Mrs. Wood is a housewife and mother. Mr. Wood served for 20 years in the Coast Guard until his retirement in 1962 in Wilmington, N.C. He was stationed in Miami, Staten Island, N.Y., North Stonington, Conn., and Baltimore, Md. After his retirement he and his family moved back to St. Petersburg, where he retired from the city of St. Petersburg.

They enjoy gardening, fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

They have three children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The Zolfos

John and Ida Zolfo celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 11, 1996, with family and friends at Stacey's restaurant in Pinellas Park. The dinner party was given by their daughter, Judy, who lives in Pinellas Park. They celebrated again June 8, 1996, with family and friends at their annual family picnic in Kinnelon, N.J.

Mr. and Mrs. Zolfo were married June 14, 1936, in New York City. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
