Bayonet Point resident wins award for slide

Reynolds Smith of Bayonet Point, a longtime member of the Chasco Camera Club, received a trophy from the group for Best Slide of the Year.

The slide was titled Sunset Vision.

Smith represents the club at the Florida Camera Club Council.

Legion Unit 79 auxiliary

sends 3 to Girls State

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Autumn Brown and Cynthia Kessler from Gulf High School and Cheryl Maughan of River Ridge High School attended Girls State in Tallahassee in June as delegates of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 79 of New Port Richey.

Approximately 300 girls were selected from high schools throughout Florida to go to Tallahassee for a week in June. During the week, they form governments from the local to the state level. They use the state legislative chambers, run for offices, vote, construct bills, form a supreme court and attend seminars.

A number of colleges accept this program for college credit. Finalists are selected from delegates who attend Girls State go to Washington to participate in government at the national level.

Soccer player makes

college Dean's List

PORT RICHEY _ Melissa Mary Wilson, granddaughter of George and Jeanne Wilson of Port Richey, has made the Dean's List at Northwood University in Midland, Mich.

She is attending the college on a soccer scholarship.
