A man driving south on I-275 Saturday morning lost control of his Ford Thunderbird and ran into a concrete barrier, before the car flipped and skidded 50 to 75 yards on its hood.
The accident occurred just after 9 a.m. near the 22nd Avenue N exit. The man was taken to a St. Petersburg hospital, and his injuries were not considered life threatening, according to firefighters at the scene. Traffic was limited to one lane for a half hour and backed up for about a mile.
Trooper Angel Cadiz estimated the driver was traveling 85 to 90 miles per hour before he lost control. The driver's identity was not released Saturday.
