Largo police seek help in identifying body

Police need help identifying a man who apparently shot and killed himself in a field between Somerset Apartments and Largo Municipal Golf Course, at 12500 Vonn Road.

A man who was walking his dog found the body about 9 a.m. Saturday. Police say the dead man was holding a .38-caliber revolver in his right hand and appeared to have shot himself in the mouth. Police could not say how long the man had been dead.

The man was white, between 60 and 70 years old, 5-11 to 6-1 and about 160 pounds, with a white beard and a receding hairline. He wore a white golf shirt, tan slacks, olive-colored socks and brown canvas shoes. Beside his body was a black nylon bag that contained a smaller bag, a white baseball cap with a blue-green logo of a sheep attached to a rope tied in a bow, and three rounds of ammunition.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call Largo police at 587-6730.
