BLUE JAYS 5, TIGERS 4 (12): Jacob Brumfield bowled over Detroit catcher Brad Ausmus to score on a two-out single by Alex Gonzalez for the victory in Toronto.

The Blue Jays blew a bases-loaded, none-out threat in the ninth.

Brumfield led off the 12th with a single off Jose Lima (0-5) and moved up on a sacrifice by Robert Perez. After Sandy Martinez popped out, Gonzalez lined a hard single to center. Chad Curtis' throw home arrived at the same time as Brumfield, who jarred the ball loose from Ausmus.

Paul Spoljaric (1-0), who pitched three hitless innings, got his first major-league win.

Toronto starter Juan Guzman gave up a leadoff double to Bobby Higginson, then retired nine straight batters, including five by strikeout, before Chad Curtis hit a hard liner off Guzman's right elbow to start the fourth.

Guzman, with numbness in his right arm, didn't even wait for the trainer to come out. He walked right off the field. X-rays were negative, however, and Guzman is not expected to miss his next start. Guzman, who threw out Curtis on the play, lowered his AL-leading ERA to 2.92.
