Cardinals clobber Jays

The St. Petersburg Cardinals continued their winning ways Monday with an 11-2 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Al Lang Stadium.

The Cardinals, who have won seven of their past 10 games, improved to 19-11 and are 2{ games behind first-place Tampa in the Western Division. The Blue Jays fell to 11-19 and remain last in the West, 10{ games out of first.

Dan Pontes picked up the win, pitching four scoreless innings before giving up Dunedin's two runs in the fifth. The Blue Jays managed just seven hits.

Meanwhile, St. Petersburg, shut out by Dunedin three days ago, found its offensive rhythm Monday, producing 16 hits en route to a 6-0 lead through the first four innings. Chris Richard had the Cardinals' only extra-base hit.

Dunedin starter Jason Jarvis lasted just two innings and took the loss.
