Six Seminole teams still alive in sectional play

Section 4 All-Star action heats up this week, with District 5's Seminole teams swinging past opponents toward the state tournament. Seminole put teams from six divisions into the tournaments and all are still alive.

In the Major baseball winners-bracket final, Paul Buhrow threw 14 strikeouts to help lead Seminole to a 10-6 victory over Palm Harbor American. Mike Sittloh belted three homers and brought in five runs to lead the offense. T.J. Layfield chipped in with a two-RBI double, and Geoffrey Langhans had one RBI. Brandon Giles and Matt Walker each scored a run, and Luis Guerrero had two hits and stole home.

Guerrero pitched a one-hitter and racked up 12 strikeouts Sunday in a 4-0 shutout of District 9.

Seminole's Junior team shut out Dunedin National 4-0 Monday behind the pitching of John Jillalea. Jon Skorupski had two RBI, and Bobby Wilson hit a double for one more.

Ryan Klee threw 10 strikeouts in 8 innings and allowed only four hits to lead Seminole's Senior baseball team to a 9-3 win over District 18 Saturday. Mike Hoben relieved in the ninth to seal the victory.

The score was tied 3-3 going into the ninth, but Seminole brought 11 batters to the plate to blow the game open. Keith Stegbauer had three hits while Klee, Will Ganci, Hoben, Scot Mazzei and Adam Wilzinski had one apiece.

The Seminole Seniors were defeated 7-2 by District 9's representative Monday, but can still bounce back through the losers bracket.

District 12 won in Majors softball Monday night, with its Countryside team slipping by the District 9 team 4-2 on Julia Weiss' two-hitter. Jennifer Bataglia, Katrina Dowd, Brook Johanessen and Becky Watkins led the offense, while Jessica Engelmann and Katie Caughell had key defensive plays.

In Senior softball, District 12's West Pasco posted a 13-5 victory over District 16 behind Brandy Crieg's pitching and Stephanie Booth's two doubles and three RBI. Amy Birch went 4-for-5.

West Pasco blew past District 9 in Big League softball 7-1 Monday night.
