Board to study water contracts

(ran SS edition of METRO & STATE)

County commissioners told their attorney Tuesday to study the contracts between the county and the West Coast Regional Water Supply Authority. Commissioners want to know what would happen if Pinellas or any other member of the authority dropped out.

West Coast, a coalition made up of Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Tampa, St. Petersburg and New Port Richey, is the Tampa Bay area's largest water supplier.

Pasco and Hillsborough county commissioners have indicated that they would consider withdrawing from West Coast, because water resources in those counties are distributed. West Coast has been embroiled in a legal battle over pumping permits denied it by the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Pasco and Hillsborough county representatives do not support West Coast's position in the case.
