A man found dead Sunday at the Largo Municipal Golf Course was identified Wednesday as an 86-year-old man who lived nearby.
Largo police Capt. Joe Gillette said Alexander Sinclair Gray apparently left his apartment at 12800 Vonn Road, walked to the bordering golf course and shot himself. A man walking a dog found Gray's body about 9 a.m. Sunday.
Officers initially were unable to identify the body and asked the public for help.
Gillette said that during the autopsy, officials from the medical examiner's office found a slip of paper in the man's clothing. On it were written a name and the telephone number of a local Salvation Army official.
Officers contacted the official, who provided an identification that was confirmed through dental records found in Gray's apartment. The captain said investigators could find no next-of-kin. Gray left no note.
