Halladay pitches Jays to 2-1 win over Tigers

Roy Halladay pitched seven innings, giving up an earned run on three hits, as the host Dunedin Blue Jays beat the Lakeland Tigers 2-1 Thursday at Grant Field.

The 19-year-old Halladay (11-6) struck out three, walked two and hit two batters.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh and the score 1-1, Omar Sanchez singled. He advanced to third on an error by Kevin Lidle, then scored on an error by Santiago Perez.

ST. PETERSBURG 8, FORT MYERS 1: The visiting Cardinals won their second straight and are 2{ games behind first-place Tampa in the Western Division.

SARASOTA 3, TAMPA 1: Ethan Faggett went 3-for-4 to pace the visiting Red Sox. Tim Raines, on rehab assignment from New York, went 2-for-3 with a double. Jose Lobaton tripled and scored Tampa's only run.

CHARLOTTE 3-15, CLEARWATER 1-2: The host Rangers snapped a two-game losing streak with their sweep of the Phillies.
