Olympic nightmares? Here's relief

Is your idea of a Dream Team a couple of guys who mow and edge your lawn? When Olympics fever leaves you cold, Floridian would like to suggest some alternatives to 3-pointers and post players:

+ Move that body at the U92 Sock Hop tonight at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg. The Saints and the Sevilles rock from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $10 at the door. Box office is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Call 892-5202.

+ Examine an eccentric but endearing friendship in Lonely Planet, a two-person play about AIDS at American Stage. Tonight's show is at 8; the play runs through Aug. 4. Tickets are $15. Call 822-8814.

+ Bake a Southern pecan pie with Karo syrup (peach cobbler is out because peaches are scarce due to a chilly winter in Georgia), and don't share a bite with anyone who knows what Sportflex is.

+ Root for the good guy in High Noon, starring Gary Cooper as a sheriff left by panicky townspeople to stand alone against four vengeful killers. Cooper won an Oscar for the 1952 flick, airing at 4 p.m. on TNT.
