Q We have been in our new home for about a year and a half and can't decide how to decorate our master bedroom. We want a sitting area on the wall with the large window and want an armoire for the TV. We also need pictures, plants, window treatments, etc.

A Let's combine some of the pieces you have with some new ones to give you the sitting and entertainment areas you want. Then some accessories and greenery will make the room come alive.

Move the lingerie chest and the dresser, as indicated in the suggested new floor plan. This will provide space for a decorative armoire _ which should not match your bedroom set _ or an entertainment unit to house the television.

Add two small, comfortable chairs in front of the window. A smaller round table between the chairs would provide a place for a book or a glass.

The size of the room and the height of the ceiling lend themselves to using a border at ceiling level. Soft valances (as opposed to stiff cornices) in a fabric that coordinates with the border will add a finishing touch. Decorative pillows made of the same fabric can bring that pattern and color to the bed.

Plants always make a room come alive. The ficus tree in the corner should be taller. You can accomplish this by elevating the tree on a small pedestal, or replacing it with a taller, broader-leaf tree, such as a palm.

The black glass vase (presently on the lingerie chest) can be the basis of a silk flower arrangement that could be placed on the corner of the dresser. The ceramic figurine you now have on the dresser appears to be a different color than the bedding, and may be a better accent piece in another room.

Flowers that coordinate with the valance fabric can be placed in the existing glass bowl and moved on top of the lingerie chest.

Place an arrangement of greenery on top of the existing armoire and add a low plant between the new TV unit and the dresser to provide additional warmth and balance.

Add a dramatic piece of art over the bed and a companion piece of art on the wall over the chairs.

Adding black tassels around the lamps will provide a bold contrast.
