Countryside's runner-up again

Westchester (N.Y.) FC captured the first Under-20 men's title at the Snickers Cup national championships with a 1-0 victory the Countryside Lightning on Saturday at Kuntz Memorial Stadium in Indianapolis.

Countryside, a four-time southern regional champ, was trying to win back-to-back titles after claiming the 1995 Under-19 championship. The Lightning also finished as national runner-up in 1991 (U-16) and '94 (U-19).

Westchester, the Region I champion, broke through in the 13th minute of the game played in steady rain. Daryl Gioffre took a lofted pass from Adam Mastrelli and lined a shot past onrushing Countryside goalie Joe Schafer.
