A Dunnellon man was struck by a car Saturday morning and taken by helicopter to Shands Hospital in Gainesville. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Thomas Henry Stokes, 28, of 12043 Big Mo Point, Dunnellon, was walking along County Road 488, 1 mile west of U.S. 41, when he was struck. The accident occurred at 6:15 a.m. near Lake Rousseau, at the Citrus-Marion County line. The FHP said Stokes suffered serious head injuries. A spokeswoman at Shands said Stokes' condition had been upgraded from critical to fair. The car's driver was identified as Dorothy A. Custardo of Holder. No charges were filed.

A Homosassa man was charged with aggravated battery after he struck another man twice with a baseball bat Friday night, police said. Kevin Richard Fuqua, 18, of 7490 W Greenacres St., Homosassa, was arrested Friday night after striking Sam Force at Force's residence at 773 NE Second Ave., Crystal River, a police report says. The report says the two men began fighting after Fuqua broke some eyeglasses belonging to Force. Force did not require medical treatment. Fuqua was taken to the Citrus County Jail, and his bail was set at $5,000.
