Hit-and-run puts victim in hospital

A Bushnell man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while walking along State Road 48 early Sunday. The car left the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Gary Michael Long, 32, whose address is listed as P.O. Box 1261 in Bushnell, was struck at 4:25 a.m. Sunday as he walked along the road about 3 miles east of Floral City, reports say. The FHP thinks the vehicle was traveling east on S.R. 48. No other information about the vehicle was available.

Long was taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness and later was flown to Tampa General Hospital. He was in critical condition there Sunday.

Crystal River man jailed in burglary

A Crystal River man was charged with burglary Saturday afternoon in a break-in at a Homosassa home.

Michael Shane Bruce, 25, of 780 Rosemary Point in Crystal River was arrested by sheriff's deputies and charged with one count of burglary in the July 16 break-in.

According to arrest reports, Bruce is a suspect in another Citrus County burglary investigation and has active burglary arrest warrants in Pinellas County and New Jersey. His bail was set at $5,000.

Man accused of machete attack

A Crystal River man faces aggravated battery charges after striking someone with a machete Saturday afternoon, arrest reports said.

Albert Carlos Ondrejko, 58, a resident of Sunshine RV Park on State Road 44 just outside the city limits, is accused of striking an unidentified victim twice in the head with the flat side of a machete. The victim suffered cuts but was not seriously hurt. Ondrejko's bail is set at $10,000.
