Pippen gets better of Bulls mate

Once again, Scottie Pippen showed Toni Kukoc who's the better Bull and the United States showed Croatia it's still a world behind.

In a rematch of the gold-medal game from the 1992 Olympics, the Dream Team took pride in shutting down NBA players from Croatia (3-2) in a 102-71 victory Sunday night.

Nowhere was the defensive attention more pronounced than in the matchup of Pippen on Kukoc, his teammate with the NBA champion Chicago Bulls.

"I try to go out and play defense and shut my man down whoever he is," said Pippen, who held Kukoc scoreless the 12 minutes Pippen played in the first half. "Toni did have a pretty good game today after I left.

Just like he did at the '92 Games, Pippen stuck to Kukoc and barely let him take an uncontested shot. By the time Pippen left midway through the second half, the United States was ahead by nearly 30 and Kukoc had scored only seven points.

Kukoc finished with 10 points _ 7.5 below his Olympic average _ and shot 4-for-11 from the field. Pippen had three three-pointers, 3 assists, 2 steals and 9 points.

Mitch Richmond led the United States (5-0) with 16 points.

YUGOSLAVIA 97, PUERTO RICO 86: Predrag Danilovic scored 22 points and Alexander Djordevic added 21 points and seven assists as Yugoslavia finished unbeaten in preliminary pool play.

Yugoslavia (5-0) plays China (2-3) in Tuesday's quarterfinals. Puerto Rico (1-4) was eliminated from medal contention.

Yugoslavia led 45-34 at halftime and appeared on the way to an easy victory when Puerto Rico went on a 20-2 run to pull to 66-64 with 8:08 left. A 16-4 run put Yugoslavia back in control.

BRAZIL 127, SOUTH KOREA 97: Oscar Schmidt scored the 1,000th point of his 16-year Olympic career. To put the record in perspective, the leading career U.S. scorer is Michael Jordan with 256 points in two appearances.

"I would change all my records for a medal," Schmidt said.

Brazil is 2-3; South Korea 0-5.

ARGENTINA 66, ANGOLA 62: Juan Espil scored 21 in leading Argentina in a game that decided fifth place in one of the six-team pools. Argentina is 2-3, Angola 0-5.
