Bloomingdale Seniors fall in state softball

On the strength of a stingy defense, Boynton Beach eliminated Bloomingdale 4-2 Monday night to earn a shot at perennial powerhouse Naples for the Senior Little League state softball championship. Game time will be 7 p.m.

Stacey Villars gave up just four hits in extending her post-season record to 6-0. Jackie Juzysta took the loss.

With Bloomingdale trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Kayte Stanberry started a rally with a double to rightfield and stole third. Lauren Gasparino brought Stanberry home with a single to center. Jennifer Wittebort then brought Gasparino home with a single to left.

CORRECTION: Krystal Crooks allowed six hits and struck out six in four innings while going 2-for-4 and scoring twice as Citrus Park defeated Federal of Fort Lauderdale Sunday in the Little League 9-10 state softball tournament at Mango. Theresa Marotta went 4-for-4 with a triple. A story Monday had the names transposed. Citrus Park plays for the state title tonight at East Point Little League.

ANOTHER CITRUS PARK FINAL: Citrus Park plays at 7 tonight at Dunedin Stadium for the Senior Little League state baseball title against the winner of Monday's Fort Myers-Jacksonville game.

TAMPA TEAM TOPS LEGION: The Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa won the area American Legion baseball tournament Sunday with a 12-2 victory over Plant Post 139 at the University of Tampa. The Tampa team (28-7) moves onto the first round of the American Legion state tournament Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Manatee Junior College.
