Man sentenced to prison in scam

A Seminole man who sold used computer printer cartridges as new merchandise was sentenced Friday to 15 months in federal prison.

Gary Patch, 50, had earlier pleaded guilty to refilling old cartridges and falsely labeling them with the service mark of Hewlett Packard, a manufacturer of new cartridges. He then sold the cartridges to customers nationwide from his Seminole-based Rapid Office Products business.

Patch pleaded guilty in May to theft and fraud charges after Pasco County sheriff's detectives caught him returning used cartridges as new ones at a Staples office supply store in Port Richey.
