PADRES 5, MARLINS 3: Scott Sanders continued his torrid July run, striking out 11 in winning his third consecutive start for visiting San Diego.

Ken Caminiti again hurt Florida, driving in a run and scoring another. Caminiti is hitting .365 against the Marlins this season with nine RBI.

Sanders (4-3), who tied his career high with 12 strikeouts against Colorado on July 18, allowed three earned runs over 6 innings. He gave up four hits and walked four.

Trevor Hoffman pitched the ninth for his 23rd save.

Marlins starter Kevin Brown (9-9) was unusually wild, hitting three batters with pitches. His scoreless-inning streak ended at 18 in the first inning when he plunked two batters and allowed three consecutive singles as San Diego took a 3-0 lead.
