Man who fooled stores convicted of grand theft

A former Department of Corrections employee was convicted this week of stealing thousands of dollars by masquerading as a Wells Fargo courier.

A Pinellas County jury convicted Matthew Damiani, 34, of Palm Harbor, of two counts of grand theft Monday night. Circuit Judge Tim Peters scheduled sentencing for next month.

St. Petersburg police said Damiani, who moonlighted for Wells Fargo, used his uniform to fool employees at area department stores into handing him the stores' receipts.
