Coach Mike Pittman has won some big games, but apparently not this one.
Pittman, who led Suwannee County's high school football team to four consecutive state championships, was trailing in his bid Tuesday to become superintendent of schools in the North Florida county. With nine of 16 precincts reporting, he was losing to longtime school administrator Wyman Harvard. Pittman had 1,942 votes while Harvard had 3,298.
Pittman, who stepped down as coach this year, can stay on in Live Oak as a grade school physical education teacher. Last week, though, he said he would "re-examine" his options if he lost.
