Driving course may save on insurance

Even if you haven't had a traffic accident in years, it is beneficial to take a defensive driving course.

Auto insurance discounts are available for those 55 and older who complete the course offered by the national Safety Council called "Coaching the Mature Driver."

The course deals th the effects aging may have on driving ability and reaction time. It also reviews basic safe driving techniques. Some experienced drivers choose to take this course to receive a three-year discount on insurance rates. Participants are advised to check with their insurance carrier about the discount.

The course is being presented by the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, Area Agency on Aging, in cooperation with Cares.

Cost for the six-hour course is $10.

Class are 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Wednesday at Cares, Phil Mishkin Center, 7505 Rottingham Road, Port Richey.

Pasco superintendent to speak to Common Cause

John Long, superintendent of Pasco County schools, will be the speaker at a meeting of Common Cause at noon today at Morrison's Cafeteria, Gulf View Square Mall, Port Richey.

Long will discuss the Legislature's responsiblity in school funding. Long has held various positions in the Pasco school district since 1976. He served in the Florida Legislature and was appropriations committee chairman in the House from 1992 to 1994.

CAPRI to install

new officers today

The Citizens Association of Port Richey Inc. _ CAPRI _ will install new officers during a meeting at 7:30 p.m. today at the Port Richey City Hall.

Valerie Faulkner will serve as president; Cassie Watson, vice president; Donna True, secretary; and Patricia Raimond, treasurer.

The board of directors consists of Lorraine Coy, Murray Guttman, Elinor Heitner, Patrick Raimond and Sal Salzillo.

Port Richey Mayor Jim Carter will be the installing officer.

Club celebrates

holiday, anniversary

The New Port Richey High Twelve Club 411 will celebrate St. Patrick's Day and its 30th anniversary at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Demetri's Restaurant, Sunset Road, New Port Richey.

Bill Godwin, president, said there would be entertainment.

The Twelvettes, a woman's group, has been formed and will share each meeting with the High Twelve Club.
