New Hampton Inn is proposed for U.S. 19

A Crystal River man is hoping to add a Spring Hill link to his chain of motels.

Les Patel, president of Maya Motel Inc., is proposing to build a three-story, 62-unit Hampton Inn on the east side of U.S. 19, about a mile south of Applegate Drive.

On Thursday, Patel will show preliminary plans to the county's Development Review Committee.

"We'd like to pick up some business on U.S. 19," said Patel, who owns four motels in Hernando, Citrus and Pasco counties and one in Georgia.

Patel said he hopes the new motel, which is scheduled to open in January, will attract more business to his Comfort Inn at State Road 50 and U.S. 19 in Weeki Wachee, which opened in December 1993.

The security of an interior corridor and larger-than-average rooms, including 10-foot ceilings, should also attract customers, he said.

The 30,000-square-foot motel will be built on a 2{-acre site and include features such as a designated fax line in each room. Also, guests will be required to use a room key and enter through the lobby after 9 p.m., he said.

"Customers like to stay in new properties," said Patel, who has lived in Crystal River for 12 years.

Patel also owns the Comfort Inn on U.S. 19 in Crystal River near the Crystal River Mall; the Days Inn on U.S. 19 in Crystal River, also near the mall; a Comfort Inn at I-75 and SR 54 in Pasco County; and a Comfort Inn on I-85 in Georgia.
