Plant graduate Wade Boggs became the first alumnus to have his name enshrined in the Plant High Baseball Hall of Fame.
Boggs was honored in a short ceremony on the field which bears his name, in which his No. 9 jersey was retired and hung on the fence behind home plate.
"This is the greatest tribute an athlete can have," Boggs said. "There are so many memories for me on this field and to be named the first one retired is special. It creates immortality."
A ceremony to honor John Hudek is planned for next Tuesday.
