The Seminole Vocational Education Center has selected electrical wiring student Don Shults as its Student of the Month for March.
Shults is a freshman at Seminole High, where he maintains a 3.5 grade point average and is a member of the junior varsity football team.
His father encouraged him to sign up for the electrical wiring program. As a second-level student, he is learning about circuits, how to bend conduit and how to wire the lights in school portables, which are constructed by the carpentry class at the center.
Shults plans a career as an electrician or machinist after he graduates. He hopes to participate in the Youth Apprenticeship Program, which links classroom training and on the job experience for high school students with post-secondary training at Pinellas Technical Education Centers.
Through the program, Shults can work toward an associate of science degree in industrial management at St. Petersburg Junior College.
Shults will be honored at a Seminole Chamber of Commerce luncheon, where he will receive a plaque sponsored by Pieczonka Trophy and a $50 savings bond from the Gulf Beaches Kiwanis Club.
