A 10-year-old girl and her 17-year-old brother were flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa after their pickup truck slammed into the back of a van Tuesday, according to Pasco County Fire-Rescue.
Joshua Marchisella was treated in the emergency room and was expected to be released late Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said. His sister, Jacqueline, was in guarded condition, officials said.
The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. near State Road 52 and Bellamy Brothers Boulevard, officials said. The occupants of the van were not injured. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
County worker thrown
from motorcycle, injured
NEW PORT RICHEY _ A Pasco County employee was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg on Tuesday after his motorcycle was struck from behind by a pickup truck, according to Pasco County Fire-Rescue.
The man, whose name and age were not available, suffered head injuries when he was hit by the truck and thrown over the front of his bike and into a van, officials said. Witnesses said the man's helmet flew off when he was thrown.
The accident happened at Little Road and State Road 54 about 5:30 p.m. The man was stopped at a traffic light. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
Child abuse charges lead
to Hudson man's arrest
HUDSON _ Pasco County Sheriff's officials arrested a 38-year-old man Monday on a warrant for aggravated child abuse and violation of probation.
Luiz Antonio Diaz of 8322 Sunnydale Drive was being held at the county jail on $5,500 bail in connection with the October 1995 incident.
Diaz is accused of beating a 16-year-old boy with a cane, according to a witness affidavit. Detectives also said Diaz punched the boy, knocked him to the ground and beat his head against the floor, according to a report.
