Winter Equestrian Festival

WHEN: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Wednesday through Sunday from today through April 5, rain or shine.

WHERE: Bob Thomas Equestrian Center at Florida State Fairgrounds, Tampa. To get there, take Interstate 275 to Interstate 4. Take Exit 5 to Orient Road. Signs give directions to parking and the equestrian center.

TICKETS: $5 for adults; $3 for students and seniors 65 and older. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Advance tickets to the $100,000 Budweiser American Invitational on April 5 at Houlihan's Stadium are $20, $15 and $10, and $32 for a family four-pack. The day of the event, tickets are $25, $20 and $12. For advance tickets and information, call Stadium Jumping at 623-5801.

EVENTS: Children, teenagers and adults in hunter-jumper and show jumping competitions. $50,000 grand prix show jumping competitions are 1 p.m. Sunday and March 30.

TOP COMPETITORS: Among the world-class grand prix show-jumping riders are Florida native Margie Goldstein-Engle, who recently captured the American Grandprix Association's Rider of the Year title for an unprecedented fifth time; 1996 Olympic team silver medalists Anne Kursinski, Leslie Burr Howard, Michael Matz and Peter Leone, who will compete in the invitational with their Olympic mounts; 1984 Olympic team and individual gold medalist Joe Fargis; and young riders Laura Chapot, McLain Ward and Alison Firestone.
