The Times is putting questions to the mayoral candidates before Tuesday's election.
QUESTION: Would you support a charter revision limiting the mayor to no more than two consecutive terms, as is the case with City Council members? What about giving the mayor line-item veto authority?
MAYOR DAVID FISCHER: I would support a charter revision limiting the mayor to no more than two consecutive terms. Veto authority could be very important to the mayor, especially if it were line-item veto during the budget process.
BILL KLEIN: Yes and yes. I support term limits and the line-item veto. Government must be accountable. The veto is a valuable tool for the mayor to keep city government accountable, and term limits means we will not have an administration tempted to use its political power to stay in office too long.
