Firefighting test drive

Published Oct. 1, 2005

Tampa Fire Department members assigned to duty at two fire stations at Tampa International Airport spent Wednesday practicing techniques to extinguish an open pit jet fuel blaze. The department's greatest weapon against such fires, the Oshkosh T3000 ARFF, or aircraft rescue fire fighting truck, can pump 1,100 gallons of water and foam onto a fire per minute. The three-day exercise, which is part of training required by the Federal Aviation Administration every six months, ended Wednesday and included visiting firefighters from Gainesville on the final day.
