The Times offers candidates not recommended by its editorial board an opportunity to reply. This is the reply in the District 2 City Council race, which did not appear on the primary ballot because only two candidates are running.
Beatrice M. Griswold
Candidate for St. Petersburg
City Council, District 2
I wish to express my appreciation to the following for their endorsements and recommendations of my re-election to the St. Petersburg City Council:
The Tampa Tribune.
The St. Petersburg Police Officers Association (PBA).
The St. Petersburg Firefighters Association.
The Firemen and Oilers Local 1220 and 1222.
The St. Petersburg Suncoast Association of Realtors Inc.
As a member of City Council, I believe that every area or our city government can be made to work better. The citizens of this city do not want more City Council rhetoric and regulations. They simply want their city government to work more efficiently and more humanely, and to address itself more directly to serving the people that it represents. They want less politics, less promises and better performance. They just want good government in St. Petersburg.
Prior to my election to City Council in 1993, I retired from a career in education, where I taught school in St. Petersburg, served as president of the Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association, as a director of the Florida Teaching Profession and represented public education at the local, state and national level.
I have served the city of St. Petersburg as a member of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Organization, the Pinellas Sports Authority, the City Beautiful Commission and the City Social Services Allocation Committee. I have served on several other city committees and also the Governor's Committee on Crime.
St. Petersburg is a great city that has seen a major rejuvenation in the last four years. I have contributed to that progress, and with your support at the voting booth on Tuesday, we will continue to move ahead, determined to work together for responsible and responsive city government. I seek your help. I need your help now.
