Two deputies dived into a pond in front of Harbourside condominiums Thursday night to search for occupants of a sports car that plunged into the shallow water.
They found that the driver had already abandoned his car and ran away about 7:30 p.m., said Pinellas sheriff's Sgt. Bill Logan. The driver, whose name was not released, later returned to the pond and joined dozens of residents watching his yellow car being hoisted from the water.
Deputies were investigating why the yellow sports car, headed toward St. Pete Beach, veered out of the right lane and into the pond at the complex entrance on Pasadena Avenue S.
